ConfidentialVerifiedFractional CTO | Hands-on technical leadership for startups & scale-ups
About
I’m a hands-on technology leader with 9 years of senior leadership experience, specialising in hard-tech software businesses working through the difficult journey from R&D to product-market fit. My background combines deep technical work with commercial software leadership. I have a first-class degree in Mathematics and a PhD in Astrophysics, and have worked with Wolfram Research and Stanford Research Institute. I later helped build and lead the technology organisation at an AI startup, including developing the AI technology behind MyFitnessPal’s computer-vision food recognition. I’ve led engineering teams and delivered technology for customers including Elevance Health, LG, Bosch, Philips and Midea, and participated in the Google for Startups Accelerator. I currently lead software at a publicly traded university spinout, working at the intersection of computer vision, mobile technology and novel materials. I’m most useful in technically ambitious, pre-product-market-fit companies: where the technology is difficult, the path to a scalable product isn’t yet obvious, and founders need someone who can move comfortably between technical detail, product strategy, customers and engineering leadership. I remain hands-on when that’s the fastest way to understand or solve a problem, while also building teams and technical organisations capable of delivering without me.
